I’m so excited to tell you about my trip to Hawaii that I made in company of my friend Clara!
I could describe what Hawaii made me feel in four words: peace , happiness, paradise and freedom.
I’ve never felt such an amazing feeling! I spent 7 days in Hawaii, but for me it was like only 2 days really!
I’m going to tell you a little bit about my trip, but I would like to suggest you how much would everything cost you more or less.
In another post, I will explain you in every detail how was my trip and some anecdotes about it and what places you can visit there. Also, I will add some of pictures in this post and some of others on another post.
My trip as I said before, was it for 7 days.
Hawaii consists of 8 islands. We spent 3 days in Kauai and 4 days in The Big Island.
Our idea was to take advantage of our trip and go to two Islands and that’s what we did. We fell in love of both Islands. They are totally different, but they have something special that has taught me and I can’t explain in words, personally.
Visiting Hawaii is not cheap at all, so if you want to go there, keep in mind that it will be expensive and you will have to save money for this amazing adventure.
First of all, we took the airplane at NYC (my au pair location) to Los Angeles. In my case, I stopped in Los Angeles because I had to wait for my friend Clara who is an Au Pair in California.
My flight was at JetBlue airlines, the cheapest airline that I know in the USA, as price and service concerns etc.. I never had problems with them and since I was in USA, I traveled with them all the time.
We flew with Hawaiian airlines from Los Angeles to the two Islands. This airline is cheaper and with the best service that we found there.
My flight from NYC to Los Angeles costed 150$ and from Los Angeles to the two Islands , we paid like 760$ for the round flight. I can’t tell you how much is the cost from one island to the other because we found the flight as a pack from Hawaiian website, that Is the best way and the cheapest way to buy.
Also, for me to come back to NYC from Los Angeles, cost 200$. The total for me was more expensive than for my friend Clara obviously. So, the total price was around 1100$ for me. Imagine the money that you have to save for this type of trip, just with the flight.
Secondly, I’m gonna talk about how to rent a car. We rented two cars, one for 3 days in Kauai and another one in The Big Island for 4 days.
In total we paid like 400$ together, for these 2 cars in different days. We rented the cars in Alamo. In this agency, you don’t need to have credit card for rent a car and it is the cheapest one.
Thirdly, We slept in a house with Airbnb sharing the whole house but not the bedroom. I think everybody knows this service. There are Airbnb app for phone and the web side.
We paid for all the week 225$ each of us. Its not expensive at all, because if you want to go to a Hostel or Hotel is like 800$ a week.
There is another way to sleep there and free that I’m pretty sure that all of you know, and it’s couchsurfing. For the people that don’t know couchsurfing, there is an app as well and the website. I will leave you the website and you can see what is it and how it works.
Finally, the food is very expensive, so it is best if you buy the food in a supermarket, that anyway is expensive as well but it is more convenient for your pocket hehehehe.
The gas is expensive too, so try to know how much spend your car during the days that you are gonna stay in the Island. In our case, the car did not spend a lot of gas because was so small, we were lucky!
Also, if you want to do activities like swimming with dolphins is expensive (140$). Snorkel is cheap. We found a place for a week just 20$.
The souvenirs are so expensive but I think that’s in every touristic place.
So, in total I spent like 1830$. THAT IS A LOT OF MONEY! I know and we tried to be as cheap as possible, but you must go, trust me, it will be your best and most amazing trip ever!!

Don’t be like the typical Au Pairs who wasted all their money with clothes and food that they don’t even need; They can’t even travel and trust me, to be an Au Pair and don’t take the chance to travel at all it just doesn’t make any sense.
Be a traveler and don’t be obsessive to buy things. I promise, you will have an amazing experience.

Tengo muchas ganas de contarles acerca de mi viaje a Hawai que hice con mi amiga Clara!
Puedo describir lo que sentí en Hawai en cuatro palabras: paz, felicidad, paraíso y libertad.
Nunca me he sentido tan increíble! Estuve viajando en Hawaii 7 días, pero al final de mi viaje sentí como si hubiera llevado solo dos o tres días.
Voy a contaros un poco acerca de mi viaje, pero en este post solo os contare y os voy a dar consejos para que vuestro viaje os salga lo más barato posible.
En otro post, voy a explicar con todo detalle cómo fue mi viaje y algunas anécdotas que nos pasaron 😀 y qué lugares y actividades puedes hacer. Además, voy a añadir algunas de las imágenes en este post y algunos de los demás en otro post.

Nuestra idea era aprovechar de nuestro viaje e ir a dos islas y eso es lo que hicimos. Nos enamoramos de ambas islas. Son totalmente diferentes, pero tienen algo especial que me enseñaron mucho y que no puedo explicar con palabras, personalmente.
Visitar Hawai no es barato en absoluto, así que si quieres ir allí, tenga en cuenta que va a ser caro y tendrá que ahorrar dinero para esta increíble aventura.
En primer lugar, tomamos el avión a Nueva York (mi ubicación au pair) a Los Ángeles. En mi caso, paré en Los Ángeles, porque tenía que esperar a mi amiga Clara, que es Au Pair en California.
Volé con la aerolínea de JetBlue, la línea aérea más barata que conozco en los EE.UU., como precio y como te atienden. Nunca he tenido problemas con ellos y desde que he estado en Estados Unidos, he viajado con ellos todo el tiempo.
De Los Ángeles a las dos islas, volamos con la Hawaiian airlines. Esta aerolínea es más barata y con el mejor servicio que nos encontramos allí.
Mi vuelo de Nueva York a Los Ángeles costó 150$ y de Los Ángeles a las dos islas y volver, nos salió por unos 760$. No puedo deciros cuánto me costo ir de una isla a la otra, porque encontramos el vuelo como pack, desde la pagina web Hawaiian airlines, que es la mejor manera y la forma más barata de comprar.
Además, para volver desde Los Ángeles a Nueva York, me costó unos 200$. El total para mí era más caro que para mi amiga Clara obviamente. Por lo tanto, el precio total fue de alrededor de 1.100 $ para mí. Imagínese el dinero que usted tiene que ahorrar para este tipo de viaje, sólo con el vuelo.
En segundo lugar, voy a hablar sobre cómo alquilar un coche. Alquilamos dos coches, uno por 3 días en Kauai y otra en la isla grande durante 4 días.
En total pagamos como 400 $ juntos, para estos 2 coches en diferentes días. Alquilamos los coches en Alamo. En esta agencia, no necesitas tener tarjeta de crédito para alquilar un coche y es la agencia más barata que encontramos en USA. También utilizé Alamo en mi viaje de Las Vegas a California, que también haré un post más adelante.
En tercer lugar, dormimos en una casa con Airbnb, dónde compartes toda la casa, menos el dormitorio. Creo que todo el mundo conoce este servicio. Hay Airbnb aplicación para el teléfono y pagina web.
Pagamos por toda la semana 225 $ cada una de nosotras. No es caro en absoluto, porque si quieres ir a un hostal o hotel es como 800 $ a la semana.
Hay otra manera de alojarse allí y gratuito que seguro que vosotros ya conocéis y es couchsurfing. Para las personas que no saben de que se trata couchsurfing, hay una aplicación para todo tipo de teléfonos y también página web. Os dejo la página web aquí y así podeis ver lo que es y cómo funciona.
Por último, tengo que avisaros de que la comida es muy cara, así que es mejor que compreis la comida en un supermercado, que de todos modos es caro, pero es mejor para su bolsillo jejejeje. 😀
La gasolina también es bastante cara, pero depende que coche tengas no os quedareis pobres hahahaha. Nuestro coche era el mas barato y pequeño y en 3 días en Kauai solo pusimos 20$ entre las dos, también pensad que depende de la isla y como os mováis, tendréis que poner más $ o no.
Además, si usted quiere hacer actividades como nadar con delfines es caro (140 $). Snorkel es barato. Nosotras encontramos un lugar que durante una semana nos costava 20 $, pero nosotras pagamos 4$ por un día. Así que si te quedas en Kauai 1 semana, alquila el material para hacer snorkel para una semana, sale mas rentable.
Los souvenirs son tan caros, pero creo que esto pasa en todos los lados donde vas de viaje como turista.
Así que en total, gasté unos 1830$. ¡ESO ES UN MONTÓN DE DINERO! Nosotras tratamos de viajar a Hawaii de la forma más barata posible.

No seas como las típicas Au Pairs que gastan casi todo su dinero con ropa y comida que ni siquiera necesitan. Ir de Au pair y no tener la oportunidad de viajar en absoluto, no tiene ningún sentido en esta aventura.
Viaja y no gastes en cosas que no necesitas. Te prometo, que tendrás una experiencia increíble.
